World Blood Donor Day - Blood donation is an act of solidarity, join us to save lives.

Every year on June 14th, it is World Blood Donor Day. To encourage more people to donate blood voluntarily and to promote the implementation of global blood safety programs, the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, and the International Society of Blood Transfusion designated June 14, 2004, as the first World Blood Donor Day. This day was chosen for World Blood Donor Day because June 14th is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Nobel Prize winner who discovered the ABO blood group system.

June 14th of each year is World Blood Donor Day. The theme of the first "World Blood Donor Day" was "Blood donation, a gift of life. Thank you." Its purpose is to thank those voluntary blood donors who have saved millions of lives through this special day, especially individuals who donate blood regularly and repeatedly, to celebrate their selfless act of donating blood voluntarily, while hoping to raise broader awareness in society about the importance of voluntary blood donation, encouraging more people, especially the youth, to become qualified regular blood donors, providing the safest blood available when lives need to be saved.

On May 24, 2005, at the fifty-eighth World Health Assembly, 192 member states of the World Health Organization passed a resolution recognizing World Blood Donor Day as an international commemorative day.

The theme for World Blood Donor Day 2022 is:Blood donation is an act of solidarity. Join us, save lives.
